Join us January 20th for the cutest day ever at Port Discovery — Plush One Day!
Spend the day at Port Discovery with your favorite stuffed-toy and get ready for some imaginative play, fun and adventures. Learn about the history behind the Teddy Bear, play our Famous Teddy Bear Guessing Game, and have the chance to use your fine-motor skills, and have the chance to use your fine-motor skills to decorate your own crafted pillow for your stuffed toy sewn by special guests, S.E.W. Youth Project.
Whether you’re a teddy bear enthusiast, or want a day full of joy with your favorite stuffed toy, both kids and adults are welcome to participate in this memorable, can’t miss day.
Museum Wide Activities
- Stuff-Cuzzi Sensory Bins : Our “Stuff-Cuzzi” sensory bins will be filled with different themed plushies and soft toys. A nest of chirping birds. The planets in our solar system. A pile of snowballs. Experience tactile delights and pop-up extension activities.
- BEARO Museum Wide Scavenger Hunt (All Day) : Explore the day with this museum wide scavenger hunt in the style of the game BINGO. Pick up a BEARO card and complete specific tasks. When you have 5 in a row, collect a special teddy bear themed item.
1st Floor Activities
- Teddy Bear Finger Puppets (Studio Workshop, All Day) : Use a variety of materials in a take-home craft, where you can create a teddy bear finger puppet to accompany you throughout the day.
- Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, Turn Around Fitness Time (Kick it Up) : Inspired by the famous nursery rhyme, this movement session is for people and stuffed animals of all ages! Join our Teddy BEAEROBICS instructor as we strengthen our health through stretching, dancing, bouncing, and balancing.
- Guest Partner: S.E.W. Youth Project : Stop by to create the perfect accessory for your plush, their very own pillow. Stuff a pillow with stuffing and close it up, and then decorate it to match your plush. One per child, while supplies last.
2nd Floor Activities
- Winnie-the-Pooh Shadow Puppet Storytime (Oasis) : Watch and listen to stories from A.A. Milne’s classic book told through the art of shadow puppetry. Afterwards, test out the puppet techniques and create your own original tale featuring you and Winnie the Pooh.
- Science Discovery: Artic Animal Exploration : Many animals look as fluffy and soft as their toy counterparts. Learn the reasons behind arctic animal’s fur in a series of touchable science experiments.
- Science Discovery: Sound & Voice Boxes : Many stuffed toys have sound recorder devices. Play with a variety of sound making, voice changing, and message recording items while learning about the STEM within sound.
