  • Director of Development

    Port Discovery Children’s Museum as a rare opportunity to join our Development team as a Director of Development, to lead key aspects of the museum’s fundraising efforts, focusing on individual giving and corporate relations.

    The Director will manage the museum’s Annual Fund, business memberships, event sponsorships, and will cultivate partnerships to further advance the organization’s mission. This position ensures that all donor relations—whether individual, corporate, or community-based—are strong, growing, and align with the highest standards of the museum’s mission and values. As a critical member of the Development team, the Director collaborates closely with colleagues to meet and exceed fundraising goals.

    This position is expected to predominantly work on-site, but occasional work from home is permitted.  Reporting to the VP of Development & Marketing, this position will function as an individual contributor.  Therefore, there are no direct reports.

  • Associate Director of Learning

    Port Discovery is seeking a creative educator and leader to be our Associate Director of Learning. The Associate Director (AD) of Learning works closely with the Learning and Visitor Experience Director (L&VE Director) in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of the museum’s educational programs, and is the primary supervisor for all Learning Team staff. With support from the L&VE Director and the Vice President of Learning, Visitor Experience & Community Engagement (VP), the AD establishes and maintains standards of performance, executes recurring evaluations, and organizes opportunities for professional development for the Learning Team staff. The AD works to build a mission-driven strategy to offer quality, evidence-based and child-centered educational programming for all of the museum’s visitors, including on-floor and drop-in activities, school and fieldtrip experiences, and opportunities for homeschool visitors. In tandem with the L&VE Director, the AD models developmentally appropriate engagement with guests, and best practices for informal museum learning.

    The workweek for this position is currently flexible; scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department / museum needs. Team members will coordinate a staffing model of rotating coverage for the museum’s weekend hours. Weekend hours are required. Participation in certain special events, evenings, and holidays will also be necessary.

  • Digital Content Manager

    Rare opportunity to join the marketing team for one of the leading Children’s Museums in the nation as our Digital Content Manager. The Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the digital strategy for Port Discovery Children’s Museum. Help tell the story of how Port Discovery educates and enriches the lives of children and families by helping children learn through playing.

    This role will manage content across our website, social media channels, and other digital platforms to drive engagement, increase visibility, and support the museum’s mission and goals.  The ideal candidate is a creative, strategic thinker who is passionate about storytelling, digital trends, and connecting with diverse audiences through digital media.

    This position is expected to work approximately one to two weekend days per month (in rotation with other members of the marketing team).

  • At Play Learning Specialist (Part-Time / Bilingual Spanish)

    Become part of Port Discovery’s new initiative, the At Play Learning Institute (APLI). Our mission is to engage caregivers and children with innovative, play-based educational experiences and programs. This position includes informal interactions, as well as structured activities and workshops within the museum and offsite.

    Our part-time At Play Learning Specialist position is primarily responsible for performing an essential role in Port Discovery’s community outreach. This position requires fluency in Spanish to help with programming in our community, along with bilingual outreach and promotional materials. You will work closely with the APLI Assistant Director and receive training about the importance of play for families and community partners.

    In general, your schedule will consist of 4-6 hour shifts Monday to Friday. However, there will be occasional evening and weekend work, which will be communicated in advance. The position offers a total of about 24 weekly hours.

  • Visitor Experience Assistant (Part-Time)

    We are seeking dependable, energetic and creative individuals to join our museum to be our Visitor Experience Assistants (VA).  The VA is primarily responsible for performing an essential role in the museum that involves maintaining a safe, welcoming, and engaging museum environment.  This position maintains positive and prepared play environments within our exhibits and play spaces by cleaning, tidying and restocking areas.  VA’s also engage our visitors by supporting playful learning and discovery through meaningful interactions with children and adults.

    Hours are flexible and can vary based on your availability.  The museum’s hours vary throughout the year.  We are currently open to the public 5 days a week and will be open 7 days a week during the summer months.  VA’s must be available to work a regular schedule of 3-4 days per week, including weekends and holidays, and may be requested to work evening programs as needed.  We can offer 10 to 29 weekly hours.

Internships

Port Discovery is a great place to intern for college students of many disciplines. Whether you are majoring in museum studies, marketing, business, art/design, or education, Port Discovery provides a professional environment where your creative thoughts are encouraged.

Internships are often available throughout the school year with the Exhibits, Development, Marketing, Programs, and Education departments.  Opportunities are limited and are based on departmental needs.
